Madden continues to crack me up!
The other day out of the blue he comes up to me and asks,
"Mom, can you please start calling me John?"
I have to admit my first thought was 'wow...he used the word please without me reminding him'....then I actually laughed out loud and asked,
"Ummm.....can you tell me why?"
"Ummm.....can you tell me why?"
"Because I want to be like that guy you named me after....you know...that cool football guy
John Madden."
BLASTED!! Where did he ever learn such a thing?!?! I NEVER wanted anyone to make that association...I mean, I knew it would happen...but I did NOT name my son after John Madden. I find the guy slightly obnoxious if you want to know the truth. I could tell Madden was being very serious, and not wanting to make light of this heartfelt request, I hesitantly agreed that we could start calling him John. The look on his face....priceless! Better than any Christmas morning face I've ever seen!
Later that day Madden...I mean John....comes and sits by me on the couch, puts his cute little hand on my leg and with the sweetest and most meaningful little voice he says, "Mom, thank you SOOOO much for naming me after John."
I just didn't have the heart to tell him that he was NOT named after John Madden....but that his Aunt Curry came up with the idea to name him Madden after she bought a really cute pair of Steve Madden shoes. He's going to be crushed one day when he finds out the truth.....poor guy!
